Challenge 5: Design Your Own Flower

Can you design your own colorful flower using the correct parts of a flower?

Book: Parts of a Flower by Candice Ransom

Materials:

  • Pipe cleaners
  • Beads (optional)
  • Foam Sheets or Colored Card stock paper
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  • Play dough

Step 1: Read the book and discuss the different parts of a flower (stem, petals, leaves, and roots).

Step 2: Layout the materials and let your child build their own flower.

build a flower m Remember, there is no wrong way to create! Let your child led their own creation even if it isn’t how you would do it!

Step 3: Share and display your flower.

Tech Extension: Let your child take a photo and email to someone special to brighten their day.

Art Extension: Design enough flowers to create a rainbow flower garden.

Math Extension: Challenge your child to create a pattern on the stem using the beads.
