You’re not crazy.
Everything you’ve suspected about school is true.
Your kid is not the problem.
You are not the problem.
The system just wasn’t designed to protect the thing your child was born with.
Hi, I’m Jamie.
I spent seven years as an art teacher. I loved kids. I loved creativity. I believed in what I was doing.
On my first day in a 5th grade classroom, I gave students an open-ended drawing prompt to start the morning. Simple. No right answer. Just make something.
Every single student stared at me and waited.
I repeated the directions. Still nothing. Finally, one brave kid raised his hand.
“Mrs. Hand, we understand the directions. But what is it you want us to draw?”
They weren’t confused. They were waiting for the steps. Someone to tell them exactly what to make and how to make it. And they were in 5th grade.
I thought about my preschoolers. Four year olds don’t wait to be told what to draw. They just draw. Everywhere. On everything.
Something happens between Kindergarten and fifth grade.
And I had watched it happen from the inside.
That was the day everything changed.
I turned my classroom into a studio. Not a place where kids followed steps — a place where they had to think, wonder, and figure things out. A makerspace before that word existed.
My goal was never to produce artists. It was to develop creative thinkers. Kids who could look at a problem, sit with the uncertainty, and trust themselves enough to begin.
Now those kids are growing up in a world run by AI. And the one thing AI cannot replicate is exactly what school is still quietly educating out of them.
Your child doesn’t need to learn creative thinking. They came into the world overflowing with it.
They just need someone to protect it.
That’s what Innovation Kids Lab is here for and it’s why you found us.
You already sensed something was off.
You’re not against school.
You just know school isn’t enough.
You’re in the right place.
