1. Plan and prep before giving your child paint. By having the apprioriate tools already
2. Clear clutter to create an open work space to paint.
3. Ask your child open-ended questions to prompt their thinking and keep your child engaged in the painting activity.
4. Limit your paint palatte to 2-3 colors.
5. Have an extra towel (or two) near by.
6. Use a cookie sheet or plastic tray (or cardboard box) to contain your child’s paper and paint.
7. Use a drop cloth either on the table or floor. Plastic tablecloths, shower curtains or painting drop cloths work well.
8. Use washable paint.
