Hi!
I’m Jamie Hand and welcome to our 5 Day Doodle Challenge!
The goal of this challenge is to create every day with your children for 5 days even if it is for just a few minutes each day.
I am a certified art teacher with three young children of my own.
I enjoy doing creative activities with them as a way to help develop their own creative interests as well as a creative outlet for myself!
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, a doodle is, “an aimless or casual scribble, design, or sketch”.
But doodling has many benefits!
Doodling can be a way to relieve stress.
As a creative person myself, I often will doodle on the pages of my to-do list! It gives me some peace as I look over the busy schedule for the day.
I also enjoy doodling because you don’t need a lot of materials.
Before having my own children I use to love to create large size collages and paintings. However, after having children, my time for my own creativity was very limited.
Doodling can be done anywhere.
If I am waiting in car line, at baseball practice or potty training my toddler I can pull out a notebook and doodle.
I also have a composition notebook for each child to doodle in too.
If we are waiting at the doctor’s office or waiting at a restaurant we use these doodle notebooks to pass the time rather than always relying on a device like a phone or tablet to be entertained.
There is no right or wrong way to doodle.
Grab a pencil and begin to make marks on the page. That’s all there is to it! You’re doodling!
But sometimes staring at a blank page can be overwhelming, you may not know where to start or begin.
This 5-Day doodle challenge will help you get started doodling and hopefully inspire spark some new ideas!
I encourage you to involve the kids.
Do the challenges together as a family!
Each challenge is designed to take approximately 10 minutes (although, you could spend more time if you wish).
Even with a busy family schedule, try to find 10 minutes to create together.
It may be at the dinner table, after school or maybe at breakfast time, find a time that works best for your family.
For us, after school works great.
