What is a water wall?
A water wall is outdoor water play where your child can control the direction of the water flow. You may have seen many versions of water walls floating around on Pinterest like this one or this one.
They look like so much fun!
But let’s be real…. I don’t have time to set one of those up (and I am not exactly sure wear the power drill is in the garage)
But save time by letting your child create their own water wall!
Put your child’s creative thinking skills to the test as the experiment and explore different ways to make their own water wall.
Our version of a water wall is super low prep and requires creative problem solving for your child.
Materials:
Water Table (we used an under the bed plastic storage container on an old chair)
Fence or sturdy outdoor wall
Tape
Bath/Water Toys
Pool Noodle
Funnels
Plastic Water Bottle
Directions:
Adult Prep: I did cut the pool noodles in half so that my child could reach the top of the pool noodle while standing. Pool noodles cut easily with a knife.
Step 1: Gather your materials and fill your table or container with water.
Step 2: Allow your child to place the pool noodles and funnels along the fence or wall. You may need to assist your child on helping tape the objects to the fence.
*Because we are using tape this is a temporary water wall. I recommend taking it down once your child is finished playing.
Step 3: Let your child experiment and play by pouring water through the funnels and pool noodles. Although using tape makes it a temporary water wall it does allow flexibilty for your child to move and change the water flow as needed.
Water play is a great sensory activity that is not only beneficial for your child’s overall healthy development but also nurtures your child’s creativity. Water play also is very easy to clean up when done outside!
