Brighten up your fall decor with these fun doodle patterned leaves. Use this project to add a pop of color in your fall crafts by turning an ordinary stick into a work of art that everyone can admire.
Have each child or family member design their own and create a modern patterned family tree.
Collaborate together or work individually this is a project everyone can participate in . If you are working with students it could be a great collaborative art piece too! Minimal materials needed. Read the full tutorial below.
Materials:
Fake Leaves (We found paper ones that had wire in them at the Dollar Store)
Permanent Markers (Metallic permanent markers worked really well)
Stick
White Acrylic Paint (optional)
Wire (if your leaves are not wired)
Vase (We used a painted mason jar)
Tutorial:
Step 1: Draw your patterns. Add different designs to your leaves and have fun with it! Experiment with different lines like straight, diagonal, zip zag or wavy. Add a variety of shapes like circle, square or triangle.
Step 2: If you wish, you may paint your stick with acrylic paint. Once the stick is dry attach your leaves. The leaves we used already had wire attached and we used the wire to attach the leaves to the stick. If your leaves do not have wire go ahead and tape or glue your leaves to a wire and attach to the stick.
Step 3: Arrange your stick in your vase. We scrunched newspaper to fill up the vase and hold the stick upright.
Design Tip: Try experimenting with different colors. We painted our mason jar turquoise to add a fun modern color to contrast the traditional fall colors of the leaves. If you need color inspiration follow our color board on Pinterest.
