Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere written by Smriti Prasadam-Halls, is a not a “scary” Halloween book making it a good pick for any age of young reader.
Lil B (6 years old) enjoyed reading the book (with a little help) to his sisters.
M-Woww (4 years) enjoyed repeating the rhyming words and Little Jellybean 18months old, loved the brightly colored pictures and pumpkins. Right now it is her favorite book on our shelf. She has looked at it everyday since we received it (see picture below).
After reading the book we had a fun discussion of different expressions and faces pumpkins can have. We even practiced making our own scared, silly and surprised faces.
Our discussion led to creating our own fingerprint pumpkins to show different pumpkin faces.
Using the book as our inspiration, we created pumpkins out of our fingerprints and added emotion faces to the pumpkins with marker. Read below for our full tutorial.
