Easy Sweet Paper Bowl Craft

Here is a summer twist on a classic fun paper craft, paper mache!

This is a great way to build a three-dimensional piece of art.

However, this process does take time (plan ahead) but the project is still easy peasy and can be completed with kids.

Fun Paper CraftMaterials:

Newspaper Glue + Water (mix equal parts together) Bowl White Paint Green Tissue Paper Red Tissue Paper Black Permanent Marker Mod Podge

Paper Bowl Tutorial:

Step 1: Prep your materials. Cut a newspaper into strips. Select a bowl to use as a mold and wrap the outside of the bowl and rim with plastic wrap. Fun Paper Crafts Step 2: Dip a strip of newspaper into your glue mixture.

Remove the excess glue by running your finger and thumb over the strip.

Lay the strip across the bottom of the bowl. Repeat with another strip while slightly overlapping the strips.

Continue to work up to the rim of the bowl. Allow layer to completely dry (we let it sit overnight). Fun Paper Crafts Step 3: Repeat process 3 more times for a total of 4  (or more ) layers. Alternate each layer in the direction you lay the strips. Fun Paper Crafts Step 4: Once paper mache is completely dry, carefully peel off your bowl. You may wish to trim the rim with scissors.

Step 5: Paint your paper mache bowl with a layer of white paint, inside and out. Let dry. Fun Paper Crafts

Hi! I think this craft project is great! I wonder how long does it take to get completely dry?

Hi, what a great activity! Just wondering, did you use wallpaper paste for the glue and water mixture or PVA? Thanks

We used pva and it has held up just fine (we still have the bowl). 🙂 Thank you for commenting. Share a photo with us of your finished piece!
