A Hand Made Family:
The Highs and Lows of being a Third Child
We are getting personal and giving you a peek inside our family life.
I never thought I would be the mother of 3, let alone the mother of 3 under the age of 5. With 3 little people that need me for almost everything it is exhausting…like really exhausting…but I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.
Jellybean is the newest member of our family. She made her glorious debut back in March. She is perfect and is already a blessing to our family. In a strange way, it is like she has always been a part of the family even though she is only a month and a half old.
Meet Jellybean.
Isn’t she the cutest!
Jellybean is the third child in our family. I am a first born child myself, but my husband is the third child out of 5 in his family. He and Jellybean share a kindred spirit about being the third child. It also has given me a new perspective on the highs and lows of being a third child.
Top 5 Ways the Third Child Gets Cheated:
1. No baby book (although, to be honest Lil B and M-Woww don’t have a completed one)
2. No quiet place to nap (this is why I use and highly recommend a sound machine).
3. Interrupted sleep (It never fails, I have to wake Jellybean to go pick up her brother from school).
4. Used clothing, (But on the flip side…I know exactly which onesies says 3 months but really only fits newborns so the onesies are practically new because they never fit the other 2 kids).
5. Clean Toys. (okay, the toys are not dirty but they have lost that “brand new” sparkle).
Top 5 Benefits of being the Third Child:
1. Better baby photos. As the iPhone has advanced so has my photography skills.
2. A tight swaddle. I have totally mastered and perfected the swaddle techinque.
3. Entertainment. No need to stare at a mobile, this child has 2 older siblings to watch.
4. A relaxed mom. I already know nursing, hugs and snuggles are going to work better for a cold than calling the doctor
5. A mom who is home. I get the honor of staying home this time and not returning to work in 10 or 12 weeks. I realize this may not be possible or wanted for other moms but for my family it is the best thing for us.

Happy Mother’s Day! Jellybean is adorable. Thanks for sharing the pros and cons of being a younger sibling. We’re expecting #2 soon and I’d been contemplating some of the same things you listed.

Thank you for stopping by and reading. Good luck with #2. For me it was actually easier with #2. You are much more comfortable the second time around. 🙂
