Paper Bag Pumpkin

Materials: 
Paper Bag
Paint (orange  or red and yellow)
Black Marker
Twist Tie or Pipe cleaner
Newspaper

Step 1:  Paint paper bag. 
We mixed our own orange color by using red and yellow paint. I love watching the “ah-ha” moment of young artists discovering that two colors can make a new color.  When painting the paper bag I suggest using a thin layer of paint. The paper bag easily absorbs the paint and will tear if too much paint is applied to the bag.

Step 2: Design your pumpkin face.
We used a black marker (permanent will work best).  Another alternative would be to cut shapes from black paper and glue to the bag.

Step 3.  Style your pumpkin and stem.
Stuff your bag with newspaper until the pumpkin is the size you want.  Using the twist tie or pipe cleaner gather the top of the paper bag and secure. Fold over the top of the bag so that the inside of the bag that is still brown covers the twist tie. Twist pull and push until you are happy with your stem.  Enjoy your easy peasy paper bag pumpkin!
