The Dot a Creative Drawing Prompt

I love inspiring creative thinking in kids. How to think outside of the box is such an important skill for our children to have in order to be prepared for a future workforce.

Last week we posted about how shoes can be a source of inspiration or a creative drawing prompt with our Shoe Fish post. We are back with another easy creative drawing activity. One great resource for drawing prompts are books.

One of my favorite books is The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The story is about a girl who thinks she can’t draw but with the help of her teacher who believes in her she realizes she is an artist and inspiration to other kids.

Creative Kids Drawing

Materials:

Paper

Markers (Crayons, Colored Pencils or Paint will all work too…whatever you have available).

Tutorial:

Step 1: Read the Book or watch the video together with your artist.

Step 2: Let them create their own dot masterpiece. I would not give too much instruction let them come up with their own solution to what their dot looks like. Ask them to make their mark….and don’t forget to sign it!
