This recycled craft is a perfect way to help celebrate Earth Day by reusing old materials but this project also makes for a great Mother’s Day gift too! We used a plastic basket that came with our strawberries and ribbon that was recycled from previous birthday gifts so the cost was zero dollars, very budget friendly. We filled it with flowers from the yard and used it as a centerpiece.
Materials:
Empty (and clean) strawberry basket
Ribbon (yarn or pipe cleaners would work if you don’t have ribbon)
Tutorial
Step 1: To start the weaving we tied a knot on the top corner so the ribbon would not slip around as we weaved it in and out of the basket. Tying the ribbon to the basket is helpful holding the ribbon in place.
Step 2: Repeating out loud, “over, under, over, under”… we weaved the ribbon through the basket. Repeat for as many ribbons as needed to fill the basket. If you don’t have ribbon, yarn or pipe cleaners work too.
Step 3: For a finishing touch we tied small scraps of ribbon around the top and filled with flowers to use as a center piece for the table.
