Looking for an easy and quick way to spark your child’s creativity? Get started with a creative drawing idea.
Creative drawing ideas make it easy for you to foster your child’s creative thinking no matter how busy your family’s schedule.
Focusing on your child’s creativity does not always have to involve a big mess or a lot of expensive art supplies. In fact you can get started today with a simple pencil and paper.
Creative prompts help spark an idea or get your child thinking and problem solving as they require your child to stop and think. Like any muscle the brain needs to be challenged too!
The creative drawing prompt below is part of our back to school creative drawing ideas series. Stay tuned for even more challenging yet fun back to school creative prompts.
Basic drawing materials are all that is needed to get started. You simply can start with paper and pencil or add color with crayon, markers, colored pencils…..even paint if you wish!
It doesn’t matter the supplies, what does matter is giving your child the opportunity to exercise their creativity.
Your child can draw in a journal, sketch book or on a piece of paper.
I also have a free printable of the creative prompt that you can download and print for your child to draw on. This makes it super easy to print and draw for your child (or even students, if you are a teacher…perfect for early finishers)!
CREATIVE DRAWING IDEA:
Draw what would happen if your teacher was a robot!
Stretch your child’s knowledge and problem solving skills by asking your child open-ended questions as your child is drawing.
Use the questions below to help facilitate your child’s creative thinking and have a discussion about your child’s drawing.
By taking a few minutes to ask questions you are showing that you value your child’s creativity and connecting with them in a meaningful way.
QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR CHILD:
What happens next?
What does your robot teacher look like?
What does your robot teacher like to do?
What shapes would you use to design your own robot?
What does your new classroom look like?
Who else is a robot?
What is your robot teacher’s name?
What type of homework does your robot teacher give?
ACTIVITY EXTENSION:
Extend the activity by having your child write a title for their drawing or even write a story to go with their drawing.
