Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids: Crafting with a Purpose

Having a 5 year old and 3 year old, one thing that is important to me is teaching them the true meaning behind the holidays. I want them to learn that there is more to Thanksgiving than just a meal. Crafting and creating projects together gives us time to talk about the upcoming holidays and time to reflect on what we are thankful for.

Last year we created our Thankful Tree and the year before that was our Recycled Thankful Turkey. This year we changed it up as we made the centerpiece more interactive. Each member of the family can easily create their own piece to add to the thankful display. I love that you can easily have your dinner guests add to the centerpiece as well.

Thanksgiving Craft for Kids

This particular project is a combination from our Easy Fall Leaf Craft and our guest post on a modern centerpiece idea on About.com. Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids

Materials:

Clothespin
brown marker
Magazine or Scrap book paper
Glue
Scissors
Permanent Marker

Tutorial:

Step 1: Cut circles from magazine pages or scrap book pages. We layered different size circles on top of each other to create contrast.

Step 2: Write the name on the circle. Around the edge of the circle add what you are thankful for.

Step 3: Clip the clothespin on the circle

Step 4: Stand and display

Have fun with it by mixing and matching with different colors and sizes. This also is easy to do if you are hosting different dinner parties with a variety of guests or even if you have last minute guests.
