Children love discovering how colors mix together to create new colors. This color mixing art project for kids takes minutes to create and only requires 2 materials, coffee filters and paint.
But don’t let the paint scare you away this a minimal mess color mixing activity.
Materials
3 Coffee Filters
Red, Yellow and Blue Paint Daubers (or Watercolor paint)
Tutorial
Step 1: Paint each coffee filter one color and let dry. *
EASY CLEAN UP TIP: Place a plastic mat or garbage bag under the coffee filter as the paint will bleed through the coffee filter.
Step 2: Hang up the coffee filters in a window or glass door (or use a light table) and overlap each color slightly to see if you can create a new color.
Red + Yellow = Orange
Yellow + Blue = Green
Blue + Red = Violet (purple)
To extend the activity follow up with reading a color mixing books like Mouse Paint or Mix It Up.

Using coffee filters is one of my favorite art materials. Let us know how it turns out!
