Materials:
- Book, “From Seed to Plant”
- Tissue Paper
- Glue mixed with water (2:1)
- Paint brush
- Canvas
- Permanent Marker
Tutorial:
Before we started creating our artwork we read the book, “From Seed to Plant”, to learn how seeds grow into plants and flowers. After discussing how flowers and plants grow and what they need to grow, Lil B decided to draw his own flower garden.
Step 1: Tear the tissue paper into pieces and lay on the canvas. Cover the tissue paper with glue.
Encourage your child to cover the entire canvas by overlapping shapes. Let dry completely.
Step 2: Once the canvas is dry, draw a flower garden by drawing with the marker on top of the dried tissue paper.
Let you child be creative. Brainstorm different things you may see in a flower garden with your child. For example, Lil B wanted to add bumble bees to his flowers.
Let your child discover what shapes are needed to draw to create a flower. Your child may decide to draw a circle for the middle and oval for the petals.
Just remember, there is no wrong way for your child to draw their own flower inspired garden!
Painting with tissue paper is one of my favorite collage techniques. No matter what the skill level of your artist it always turns out colorful and unique. It is a great art project for kids especially when working with a different aged (or skill level) artists.

Love all your collages! We have 2 canvases that I would like to reuse and covering with newspaper sounds way more fun than painting over it 🙂

Collage is my own favorite personal technique so my children are subjected to it a lot! But I do like this technique for young artists because every time it turns out so unique and beautiful!
