“Do you like my painting, Mom?”
Did you know simply by changing your answer to this one question can significantly grow your child’s creative thinking?
We have already established that providing painting activities for your preschooler is pretty important, especially since painting does literally grow your child’s brain.
I know what you are thinking,
painting is messy…
requires more time…..
and with your preschooler’s short attention span, it may seem like after you finally get the activity set up, your preschooler wants to move on to something else…
But what if painting with your child didn’t have to be so hard?
As a busy mom of 3 kids myself, I know how hard it can be to paint with a preschooler which has led me to develop a simple 5 step system for painting with preschoolers.
I have combined my experience as an art teacher and as a mom to break painting down into a simple easy step by step system that any “busy” mom can use (even if you are “non-artsy/crafty”).
So, how do you answer the question, “Do you like my painting, Mom”?
The answer is really is simple, turn the question back on your child, “Do you like your painting?”
Listen to your child’s answer and follow up by asking your child an open-ended questions…
“What do you like best about your painting”
“What is your favorite part”?
Now, you are engaged in a meaningful conversation with your child that may only last a couple minutes but makes a lasting impact on your child’s self-confidence and creative thinking.

I like your idea of expanding compliments into a discussion about the art. And there are so many ways to display their works to let them feel good about their accomplishments.
Thanks.
